Legislative Candidate Forum

Learn how our local elected officials support mental health. Join NAMI Racine County October 8, 2024 for a Legislative Candidate Forum at Ives Grove, 6-7:30pm.

NAMI Racine County is nonpartisan and will not endorse any candidate or party. We believe it is imperative to people's mental wellness to be informed voters, so we're hosting a Legislative Candidate Forum which is free an open to the public. We are inviting all candidates up for election who will serve legislative districts in Racine County.

Engage directly with candidates seeking district representation in Racine County. Ask questions and learn about their policies on mental health.

Moderated by Racine County Eye, NAMI Racine County's Advocacy Committee will create the opportunity to learn about candidate's policies, priorities, and platforms which will impact mental health. This will be followed by a Q&A. Please limit your questions for the candidates to topics related to mental health.

Go Green Monday

NAMI Racine County and Racine Friendship Clubhouse partner to publicly demonstrate our support for people living with mental illness. Join us at NAMI Racine County for a quick lunch before we head out to the corner of Washington Ave and Ohio St in Racine where we will hold signs designed by people living with mental illness so we can reduce the stigma unfairly surrounding mental health and mental illness.

NAMI Smarts: Advocacy Training

NAMI Smarts: Grassroots Advocacy Training will transform your passion and lived experience into skillful, grassroots advocacy. In this half-day training, build your confidence with:

  • Telling a compelling story that is inspiring and makes an “ask” in 90 seconds

  • Writing an effective email, making an elevator speech and making an impactful phone call

  • Orchestrating a successful meeting with an elected official

This program was designed to provide people with mental illness and their families the tools they need to advocate as NAMI members. However, the skills learned in this training can be applied to any focus area and a wide-range of advocacy/lobby efforts.

Veteran & Men's Mental Health Informational Panel

NAMI Racine County hosts an informational panel on mental health from the perspective of veterans and men. Join us to hear from representatives of the Racine County's Veteran Service Office, a PhD with a focus on men’s mental health, NAMI Racine County Veteran’s Support Group facilitator, and a Captain John D. Mason Veteran Peer Outreach Peer Specialist.
